Tea and Cake at Ideal Foods HQ, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support
Liskeard based, family Seafood business, Ideal Foods Ltd, hosted a coffee morning on Friday 27th September in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £500.00 for the charity.
To add a different dimension to the event, the staff at Ideal Foods head office in Liskeard entered into a fun, ‘bake off’ style competition with great enthusiasm. There was a large variety of cakes entered and the standard of baking was extremely high.
Judging the competition was Mr Richard Evans MBE (aged 73), from Pensilva and father of one of the Ideal Foods employees.
Last year, retired Royal Naval Officer, Mr Evans was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and told his chances of survival were less than 3%. Following a year of intense treatment, Mr Evans has defied all the odds. His cancer is now in remission and he has returned to playing golf for Cornwall.
Mr Evans owes his life to the amazing team of doctors and nurses in Oncology that cared for him during his treatment and the support of Cancer charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mr Evans took his role as chief judge very seriously by sampling each and every cake. However, his stand out winner was the stunning rainbow cake made by Sales Admin and Logistics Coordinator, Shannon Talbot. Shannon was crowned ‘Star Baker’ and presented with her prize, a Macmillan Coffee Morning Apron.
Friends and family of staff at Ideal Foods attended the coffee morning between 11am and 1pm on Friday 27th September and raised £371.00 in donations and from a raffle. The company then topped up the donation to £500.00.
Tony Horner, Managing Director of Ideal Foods comments: “The statistic: 1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with Cancer in their lifetime, is a very frightening and certainly a number of our staff members have been indirectly affected by Cancer in recent years.
“As a family business with a hard-working and loyal work force, we were delighted to be able to host a Macmillan Coffee morning in order to raise funds for the amazing work carried out by this charity. And it was great to see all the staff entering into the spirit of the event too.”
