Ideal Foods Wins Exporter of the Year at the Cornwall Business Awards
Liskeard based seafood company ‘Ideal Foods’ is delighted to have been chosen as the winner of the Cornwall Business Awards, Exporter of the Year.
The judges selected Ideal Foods, a company which specialises in the international trade and export of fish, shellfish and fish by-products, as the winner of this award because almost 90% of its business is done outside of the UK, with exports of seafood to more than 40 countries worldwide.
The company also prides itself in using all of the fish to reduce wastage. It actively sources markets for every part of the fish from the high risk and tightly controlled baby food sector right down to animal food under the company’s own pet food brand, ‘Purely Fish’.
Jeanette Turpin, Sales Director of Ideal Foods comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been given this award, in recognition of our work in British food exports.
“Ideal Foods is a small, Cornish family business, but we have a fantastic team of dedicated and hard-working staff who without, none of this would be possible.”
The Cornwall Business Awards are organised by the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth and Skills Hub and the Exporter of the Year award was sponsored by Cornwall Trade and Investment.
The winners were announced yesterday at a glitzy award ceremony at St Mellion International Resort, where Olympic rower, Helen Glover MBE was the guest speaker.
Lauren Horner, Operations Directors comments: “Our business has built up gradually over the last 28 years and we have achieved consistent year on year growth since the very beginning. The business now turns over in excess of £11 million pounds annually.
“In her speech, Helen Glover talked about that feeling you get when you cross the line first. Last night, we got to experience how that feels and we very much enjoyed that ‘punch the air’ moment that Helen talked about.”
As a thriving business, Ideal Foods will continue its research of new and emerging international markets in order to fulfil its future growth strategy and later on this year, it will exhibit at ‘Food Africa’ in Egypt.
