Ideal Foods Win Exporter of the Year at the Western Morning News Business Awards

24th November 2019 Our Business

Cornish based seafood company ‘Ideal Foods’ is delighted to have been chosen as the winner of the Western Morning News Business Awards, Exporter of the Year.

The judges selected Ideal Foods, a company that specialises in the international trade and export of fish, shellfish and fish by-products, as the winner of this award because almost 90% of its business is done outside of the UK, with exports of seafood to more than 40 countries worldwide.

Every year, Ideal Foods exports 8,700,000kg of fish products, substantially more than is landed in most local fish markets across Plymouth (6,255,000kg).

Jeanette Turpin, Sales Director for Ideal Foods comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been given this award, in recognition of our work in British food exports.”

“This has been a fantastic year for Ideal Foods. Earlier on this year, we won Exporter of the Year at the Cornish Business Awards and last month, we set a new company record for monthly turnover at £1.6 million for the month”.

Reduction of national and international food wastage is a key business value for Ideal Foods. The company prides itself on actively finding markets for as many parts of the fish as possible to reduce food wastage. From the high risk and tightly controlled baby food sector right down to animal food under the company’s pet food brand, ‘Purely Fish’.

The Western Morning News Business Awards is organised by Reach Events and the Exporter of the Year category is sponsored by Optimus Performance Marketing. This award rewards an organisation that has generated substantial and sustained increased growth in export activity.

The category winners were announced last night at a glitzy awards ceremony at Plymouth Pavilions.

Lauren Horner, Operations Director for Ideal Foods comments: “As an innovative and environmentally aware, South West family business, we work really hard to make sure that we can compete equally alongside our larger competitors.

In order to allow our business to continue to grow, we are constantly researching new markets and invest time, effort and money in new product development.

Together with our dedicated and hard-working staff, we are confident that we have everything in place to see many years to come of further growth.”
