Liskeard based seafood company ‘Ideal Foods’, is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for a Cornwall Business Award in the Exporter of the Year category.

Ideal Foods is a family run business that specialises in the international trade and export of fish, shellfish and fish by-products, to customers in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Ideal Foods has adopted a different business model to other seafood businesses. The company prides itself in using all of the fish to reduce wastage. It actively sources markets for every part of the fish and consequently now consists of a number of subsidiaries that include Ideal Nutritional Foods, which supplies high quality, tightly controlled aqua cultural to the top European baby food manufacturers and Purely Fish, a pet food brand with a range of 100% pet food, made from fish.

With 85% of Ideal Foods sales taking place outside of the UK and consistent year on year growth, Ideal Foods meets the criteria and more of the Export of the Year Award.

Jeanette Turpin, Sales Director of Ideal Foods comments: “As a small business, we have worked incredibly hard over the years to make a success of our business model. We found a niche in the market place with the by-products and have lead the way ever since.

“Last year, the company reached a milestone, turning over £10 Million. This year, we have stepped this up again with recorded turnover of £11.3 Million.”

Alongside the other two shortlisted companies in this category, Ideal Foods will attend a showdown in front of the Cornwall Business Awards judging panel, in Redruth on Wednesday 12th May, where the category winner will be decided.

Additionally and for the first time in the history of the Cornwall Business Awards, Business of the Year will be chosen by the public and all finalists from across the 14 categories are in the running to win this award.

Jeanette Turpin continues “Being recognised for our hard work in British exports is extremely important to us and we are delighted to have been shortlisted for this category award. We will do our very best to put our reasons forward to the judges as to why we should be selected as the winner of Exporter of the Year.

“In the meantime, we would like to ask our local community to support us by voting for us as Business of the Year. To do so, just head to the Cornwall Business Awards website and cast your vote for Ideal Foods.”

The 14 category winners and the winner of Business of the Year will be announced at the Awards night which will take place at St Mellion International Resort on 27th June.
