International seafood business, Ideal Foods is delighted to announce that it has signed a new supply agreement with Fife-based Mowi Consumer Products UK, which is part of Mowi ASA the world’s largest producer of Atlantic salmon.

Cornwall based Ideal Foods Ltd exports fish, shellfish and fish by-products to more than 40 countries worldwide. In the last financial year, the company sold 11,520 tonnes of fish, 87% of which was sold overseas.

As a low cost and nutritious food source, there is no shortage of demand for fish by-products including salmon heads, bellies and collars. By securing this new supply from Mowi Consumer Products UK, Ideal Foods is able to increase its stock availability by up to an additional 5,000 tonnes per year.

Tony Horner, Managing Director of Ideal Foods comments: “Over the last decade, we have been fortunate enough to see consistent year on year growth and in the last financial year, we achieved another company annual turnover record of £13.2 Million.

“To enable us to continue on this growth trajectory, we had to increase our supply of products. This new partnership with Mowi has allowed us to do this”.

Mowi CP UK is one of the largest seafood companies in the UK, producing delicious and supreme-quality seafood. The parent company is responsible for fulfilling one fifth of global demand for farm-raised Atlantic salmon.

Salmon is known for its low carbon footprint, high yield of edible meat, and healthy nutritional profile. This new agreement enables both companies to advance sustainability goals by ensuring consumption of the whole salmon – ensuring little or no food waste and delivery of nutritious meals in unique products.

Gary Paterson, Head of Operations of Mowi CP UK comments: “We are pleased that this new agreement sees our delicious and nutritious seafood products finding their way to Ideal Foods customers – ensuring food waste is minimised whilst also adding to a healthy diet. With Ideal Foods’ wealth of experience and knowledge in this sector it was important for our operation that we had a partner who could maximise the opportunity with the range of products we provide from our facility in Rosyth.

Last year, Ideal Foods industry and exporting prowess was acknowledged by winning Exporter of the Year at both the Western Morning News Business Awards and the Cornwall Business Awards.

With its own export department, Ideal Foods is able to process all export documentation including health certificates, bills of lading and certificates of origin in-house. As such, this year, Ideal Foods export controller, Victoria Jennings was invited by the Department of International Trade to become an Export Champion.

Tony Horner continues: “Despite these extremely challenging times, our company has continued to flourish. We have an extremely loyal and hard-working team of staff who have made this all possible.

“As a thank you, my directors and I have rewarded our staff with two additional day’s holiday, the first of which was added on to the Whitsun bank holiday weekend last month.

“The increased stock availability will add pressure to our cold store in Grimsby. Therefore, we will be looking to increase the number of staff working in our Grimsby office in the very near future.

“With the partnership with Mowi now in place, as a company, we are looking forward to the exciting opportunities that this brings to us over the coming years ahead”.
